Worcestershire Villages Historic Environment Resource Assessment

The Worcestershire Villages Historic Environment Resource Assessment was produced in 2013 as part of a Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service pilot project, funded by Historic England (then known as English Heritage). The project aimed to develop a method of ‘historic townscape characterisation’ for Worcestershire’s urban areas, identify means through which to support communities in the promotion of local character, and generate an evidence base for Neighbourhood Planning.

Alvechurch

The villages of Alvechurch and Kempsey were selected as a case study through which to form the methodology. A detailed review of their local historic environment and character was therefore  produced, with many special ‘Character Areas’ identified and discussed within character statements describing town development, landscape setting and built form. The Historic Environment Record for the towns has also been greatly added to with hundreds of historic buildings and archaeological monuments.
